About Social Bookmarking and my Classmates’ Choices…

Hi guys!
This week I found out how to save and share my favourites websites online by using s
ocial bookmarking. I was really surprised when I was able to retrieve a specific website I had saved online on a different computer and when I found out how to share my bookmarks with the members of my group.
First of all, I found sites involving my personal interests and language learning process exploring on
http://delicious.com/, and I made notes that could attract the attention of my peers.
As we are all studying English at the University, I saved two websites that could help us improve our language skills, i.e. the BBC radio and the videos section of CNN. There you can find a wide range of audio and video materials either international or from the UK with news about sport, politics, music, and entertainment.
Since we are all jobseekers who attend Professor Taylor's course on CVs and job ads, I searched for further guides that could help us write a proper CV, a professional cover letter, and which could prepare us for a successful interview.
Then, I found an interesting website on
English idioms and proverbs, which could help us in our approach to an English like a native speaker; and finally a site, that provides explanatory articles and instructions to a non-native speaker who wants to know more about English punctuation.
Based on the descriptions in my classmates' notes, and I decided to visit the website
http://www.datsi.fi.upm.es/~frosal/docs/25mdq.html, which is about the twenty-five most difficult questions you'll be asked on a job interview. Since we have to prepare ourselves for a job interview, I think that this site can guide us in order to organise and prepare it properly and successfully applying for a job.
I liked the website
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/pron/, which gives information about different elements of English pronunciation and provides us with activities, radio programs and interactive quizzes.
Finally, I think that the website
http://writingpower.net/main_page.html is very useful as it explains how you can empower your writing skills saving a lot of time.
I am sure that s
ocial bookmarking will prove to be very useful for my English learning process, and particularly helpful in retrieving information for my future dissertation as it gives me access to other people’s interests and favourite topics.

Bye
Anna

My Reflections on feeds

Hello everybody!
I found last lesson in the lab very interesting, as I learnt how to use Bloglines, an online service that can help us to manage lots of web information, such as news feeds and weblogs.
Even if I usually don’t feel so comfortable in using new technologies, as it is sometimes frustrating for me, Sarah showed us the easiest way of how to have our aggregator up and running.
I think that Bloglines can be very useful for us, as it tracks and retrieves new information, and organizes everything for us on our personal web page in a variety of different ways.
At home I could subscribe new feeds on music, lifestyles, and create playlists on my English course, on online newspapers, such as CNN or BBC news. This helped me to group websites with common subjects under the same heading, and to receive the latest news in the same page, without surfing on each different website.
I also believe that this can be a good opportunity to always get the updated posts of my group members without being in their personal blog page.
The overall impression is positive and I hope that with this experience I will improve my computer abilities within this course, where I can learn to use the Web in a more effective way.

That's all for now,
Bye
Anna

My Reflective Blogging Post

I realise that I haven’t been spending so much time to think about my language learning process so far, but I have to admit that it is essential to be aware of your language capacities, if you want to improve and achieve your goals. Unfortunately last week I was absent during the Thursday lesson and I couldn’t reflect upon my next language learning targets in class, but if I carefully think about it I realise that I have to improve my writing and in particular my oral skills. I should gain in fluency while interacting with other people or while speaking and I would like my vocabulary to be more accurate and proper in each different situation. Certainely this course on blogs will help me to approach to my language targets.

On the blogosphere I could find new vocabulary, which ranges from technical words to far more colloquial words and I will need a few time to spend upon them every week in order to enrich my language knowledge. On the other hand I am also aware that to appear more spontaneous I need to speak, and in this perspective the lessons on Thursday will be useful. Even if with a large variety of colloquial expressions, which were sometimes difficult for me to understand, I hope that the style of the blog will help me to be more clear and concise in order to avoid long and intricate sentences.

I hadn’t the opportunity to write my learning target sheet, but to be honest, in the past week I tried to attend as many English lessons as possible, I made all the homework assigned, including blog posts, academic paper, I prepared myself for an oral presentation and read a lot of stuff, including the Internet and paper materials.

That’s all I think!

Bye Guys!

Welcome to my personal blog page!

HI EVERYBODY!

This is the first time I'm blogging and I think that this is a wonderful experience to meet new friends and to improve my abilities in using the computer during this second semester.
At first I felt a little bit confused when I had to surf the blog's world, but after some time I felt excited to use new tools and I realised that I can find my way out and create my personal blog.
I hope this course will help me to learn new vocabulary and to improve my reading skills.

I believe that this is a great opportunity for us to interact and share interests, so whenever you want leave a comment and have fun!

Bye!
Anny:-)
